The T.U.F. Morning After: Season 14, Episode 4

|

Here we go with a two fight episode!  That means less pranks, talk, and house shinanigans, and more fights!

We start off with a classic grappler versus striker match with Dennis Bermudez of team Mayhem versus Stephan Bass of team Bisping.  Bermudez’s laid out his game plan perfectly in his pre-fight comments.  He said he will “Put a blanket on him and try to suffocate him,” and that is exactly what happened.  In the first round Bermudez immediately take Bass out of his striking element by driving him to the fence and securing a takedown.  For the rest of the round, Burmudez worked to control a top position and peppered Bass with punches.

In the second round, aside from a failed leg lock attempted from Bass,  it was more of the same.  Eventually, Bermudez was able to flatten out Bass on the mat face down and was able to pound out a TKO with 2 minutes left in the round.  Bisping was now livid.  As much as he tried to sugar coat his locker room message to his fighters, he still chewed out his fighter right after losing a fight.  Talk about kicking your own guy when he’s down!  Bisping’s biggest gripe was that none of his fighters were following the game plan or the corner instructions.

Dennis Bermudez def. Stephan Bass via TKO in round 2.

Up next, Mayhem gets his fourth fight pick in a row.  Dustin Pague from team Mayhem versus team Bispings #1 bantam weight pick, Louis Gaudinot.   Pague has a huge reach and height advantage over Gaudinot, but Bisping still feels that they have the best fighter in the fight.

Before the fight,  Mayhem brings up the issue with his team of the mole.  He knows that the only way that team Bisping is finding out the match-ups for their fight picks is that  someone on his team is ratting on them.   Dodson is sitting silent during the whole meeting and not owning up to the situation, showing that his allegiance to his friends on the other team seems to be stronger than the ones he has with team Mayhem.  In the end, it doesn’t really matter too much because team Mayhem is still winning.

The quote of the season so far belongs to Louis Gaudinot before this fight.  “I came here for two reasons.  To chew bubble gum and to kick some ass.  I’m all out of bubble gum.”  Nice spin on a classic.

The first round was a back and forth brawl.  Pauge utilzed his reach by throwing lots of jabs and lots of knees as it was easy to reach the shorter fighter. Gaudinot was able slip inside to throw inside punches when Pauge would over extend his strikes.   Pauge was able to control the last minute and a half by clinching with Gaudinot against the fence and pressuring him with strikes.

Pauge was able to continue with this momentum into the second round as he was able to stuff Gaudinot take down attempt, and score a huge knee from the clinch.  The knee rung Gaudinot’s bell enough for Pauge to easily secure a rear naked choke to finish off his opponent.

Dustin Pague def. Louis Gaudinot via  rear-naked choke, submission at 2:28 of round 2.

So now Team Mayhem is 4-0.  I’d hate to be in Bisping’s position because I’m sure Mayhem will be rubbing it in the way only Mayhem can.
