Chael Sonnen Expected to Take On Mark Munoz at UFC on Fox 2

|

Since Anderson Silva is expected to be inactive until mid 2012 due to injury, the UFC had to find another option for Chael Sonnen. The so-called “People’s Champ” is rumored to be facing off against Mark Munoz in a number one contender fight at the UFC on Fox 2 card.

MMAInterviews first reported the match-up, citing sources close to the fighters.

UFC on Fox 2 is expected to take place January 28th from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Sonnen vs. Munoz will reportedly headline the card, other rumored bouts include Jake Ellenberger vs. Diego Sanchez, Melvin Guillard vs Jim Miller, and Demetrious Johnson vs. Eddie Wineland.

Sonnen who dominanted Brian Stann in his last match at UFC 136, called out Anderson Silva in pro wrestling fashion. The call outs continued over the past month, but will more than likely stop due to the fight with Silva no longer being possible.

Munoz most recently defeated Chris Leben at UFC 138 to improve his winning streak to four. He also called for a title fight following his win.

This is a very intriguing match-up as both men have very dangerous wrestling and some serious ground and pound.
