Prospect Watch: Scott Heckman and Lucas Pimenta

|

Two noteworthy fighters made a big statement by defeating their respective opponents in devastating fashion. Scott Heckman and Lucas Pimenta are young up and comers that have proven themselves worthy of being called prospects by quickly exploiting their opponents weakness and capitalizing to attain first round victories on this weekends Bellator 59.

Scott “the Animal” Heckman (9-3-0), a wrestler from Levittown Pennsylvania, defeated Brylan Van Artsdalen via Standing Guillotine Choke (modified) in the featherweight division. The fight started with Heckman going in for a takedown, which gets stuffed and Artdalen clinches him on the fence. Artsdalen then goes for a takedown of his own which gets reversed and leads to separation. Heckman steps in with a rangy left hook that sets up a huge double leg as Artsdalen tries to land some of his own shots. The takedown inverts Artsdalen and they land on the back of his neck. Artsdalen scrambles and Heckman sinks in a deep guillotine from the guard. Artsdalen opens the guard and manages to get side control, but Heckman quickly scrambles and gets back on his feet and grabs a leg to manage another takedown. Artsdalen scrambles from the north-south to get back on his feet, but eats a knee on the separation. On the stand up Heckman lands a nice lead body kick left hook combo, where after Artsdalen goes in for the takedown leaving his neck open for the standing guillotine.

Lucas Pimenta (5-0) fighting out of Newark, New Jersey is a 24 year old, who has won 4 of his 5 fights in 2011. He defeated Doug Gordon via Elbow KO from the half guard at a catchweight of 175 lbs. Pimenta (5’10”) fights from the southpaw stance, while Gordon the shorter fighter at 5’8″ fights from the orthodox stance. It was clear that Gordon wanted to utilize kicks to overcome the range deficit. The first contact Gordon lands a body kick with his right foot while Pimenta gets a leg kick with his left foot. The fighters throw feints to try and gauge the range, Gordon then throws a right high kick that misses. As Gordon goes for another body kick, Pimenta capitalizes with a right (lead hand) hooker-cut that counters Gordon’s kick and throws him off balance. Pimenta lands on top and throws some hammer fists and flattens Gordon out in the half guard. After 5 short elbows, it was clear that Gordon was out and the ref throws his body over his head ending the fight.
