Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson settle the score in June

|

The influx of a 125-pound division has been long awaited fans and media personnel for a long time but little did we know that the first flyweight fight in UFC history would be clouded with controversy.

McCall and Johnson were the most popular non-Australians in the Allphones Arena that afternoon as they had a highly-competitive back and forth battle capped off with McCall ringing in a 10-8 round on Sal D’Amatos card that caused a world of trouble.

For those who don’t understand the process the three cageside judges write down their score and hand it to the athletic commissioner, in this case Craig Waller who mis-read D’Amatos score which almost caused a riot in Sydney.

The official score was supposed to be a draw which would give us a fourth round of action to determine who advances to the final but that didn’t materialize due to the error.

As a result we are tentatively scheduled for a return match as a featured bout on The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale expected for June 1.

Unfortunately due to the mistake on the end of Waller it leaves Joseph Benavidez to sit on the sideline until the final quarter of 2012 before we crown the inaugural flyweight champion.

For those of you who live in the fight capital of the world be sure to grab you tickets for this event at the Palms Casino Resort for this historic fight as well as the crowning of two new Ultimate Fighters.
