Boetsch spoils Lombard’s UFC debut

|

Will UFC Octagon jitters affect Hector Lombard’s UFC debut?

Lombard landed a huge shot to begin the round, but Boetsch took it and moved on. Lombard seemed to pace himself throughout the first round. The two traded blows in the first round, but neither man took advantage of their power.

The second round seemed to be the same as the first. The pace of the fight has stayed the same, but Boetsch is definitely scoring points. Lombard landed a shot that dropped Boetsch and he didn’t take advantage of the situation. Boetsch ended up back on his feet. The round finished with both men clinched up against the cage.

Dana White tweeted mid way through round 3 “Brutal” which pretty much summed things up.

Tim Boetsch def. Hector Lombard by Split Decision (28-29,29-28,29-28)

Boetsch spoke about how he wasn’t thrilled with how things went following the fight.

“I was glad to give him [Hector] his first loss though I wasn’t too thrilled with how things went.  I landed a few strikes.  My foot is a testiment to that.  Hector is heavy handed and a tough fighter.  He is going to beat up a lot of guys and put on a lot of good fights in the UFC.   He’s a power striker but I knew that and was able to put together a good strategy to beat him.”
