UFC 151 fighters react to card being cancelled

|

Today is a day that is going to go down in UFC history, as the day UFC 151 was cancelled.

Dana White announced today during a special media conference call that Dan Henderson was injured and forced to withdraw from his main event title fight with Jon Jones. The only man to step up, according to White, was former middleweight contender Chael Sonnen. Unfortunately, Jon Jones declined the fight with Sonnen, stating he would not face him on 8 days notice. One hour prior to the conference call, White made up his mind and had cancelled the entire UFC 151 card.

This may not be worrisome for the main event fighters, such as Jon Jones and Dan Henderson, as they make enough money to last them until their next fight. However, the undercard fighters needed these fights in order to pay the bills.

Lets start from the top and move our way down.

Eddie Yagin who was supposed to fight on the main card against Dennis Siver summed it all up in a simple tweet.

Thiago Tavares obviously didn’t realize his bout with Dennis Hallman was even cancelled.

Using Google Translate, his tweet stated, “Sparring with amigos.Time united and very strong workout!”

Shortly after, his opponent Dennis Hallman reacted to the days situation.

Moving to the preliminary card, the fighters seemed to react a tad bit heavier.

Danny Castillo who was set to go toe-to-toe with Michael Johnson even took to Twitter to borrow some money.

Jeff Hougland used sarcasm and humor to get himself through the day.

Tim Means wanted to thank his fans and understood what was going on, as everything seems to happen for a reason.

One man who blamed Jon Jones personally, was Abel Trujillo. Trujillo was set to make his UFC debut against Tim Means.

Former TUF contestant, Daron Cruickshank was ready for battle and he will stay positive.

As if pay cheques weren’t enough, Shane Roller made it clear that he had other expenses that had already been paid as well.

Kyle Noke was set to square off with Charlie Brenneman in the first fight on the preliminary card. Both these guys seemed to be quite devastated by the news.

Brenneman says it right there. It sucks for all the families, friends and fans that had already planned on making the trip to UFC 151. We can see from the fighters perspective that they are truly upset.

It’s unfortunate that a whole card was cancelled because of ONE MAN!
