|

“Tough Mudder events are hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. With the most innovative courses, half a million inspiring participants, and more than $3 million raised for the Wounded Warrior Project, Tough Mudder is the premier adventure challenge series in the world.” – www.toughmudder.com

Check out the first Tough Mudder training vlog leading up to the Seattle Tough Mudder on September 29th, 2012!

After I had the chance to tackle my first Tough Mudder in June in Whistler, BC, I believe that anyone who puts their mind to conquering this challenge can do it.  However, it’s still important to make sure you train, so that you are prepared for anything they throw at you.

As my favorite tactical survival youtube vlogger, nutnfancy, says “It’s better to be over prepared than it is to be surprised.”

For the first vlog, the F.I.T. Mudders and I tackle one of Vancouver’s favorite routes, the Grouse Grind.

Trail Facts
Length: 2.9 kilometres (1.8 miles)
Elevation Gain: 853 metres (2,800 feet)
Base: 274 metres above sea level (900 feet)
Summit: 1,127 metres (3,700 feet)
Total Stairs: 2,830
Statistics: Annually, over 100,000 people hike the trail.
Average Time: On average it takes up to an hour and a half to complete the hike. For novice hikers, two hours is recommended.
Participants: Hikers range in age from 7 to 90, with an equal male/female split.

We do the Grind once a week, on Saturday mornings.  It helps us develop the strength and endurance to tackle the TM obstacles such as, “The Death March” and “The Brave Heart Charge”. To break up the monotony of course, we have done such fun things as carrying logs or wearing weighted vests.  This time, we run it twice, back to back. Sounds like fun…

Special thanks to Ryan Mendoza of Mendoza F.I.T. Systems for pushing the team to the limits.
