Jon Fitch takes on Demian Maia at UFC 156 in February

|

The UFC has put together a showcase welterweight match-up for the UFC 156 fight card, as Jon Fitch will take on Demian Maia.

UFC Officials announced the match-up on Thursday.

Fitch (24-4-1) made his return to the Octagon after nearly a year off and dominated Erick Silva at UFC 153 en route to a unanimous decision. Prior to the fight, Fitch made it clear that he would be putting on a Fight of the Night performance, but many critics did not believe him. Well, he proved them wrong; that performance earned Fitch and Silva “Fight of the Night” honors as well.

Maia (17-4) also fought at UFC 153 where he defeated Rick Story and picked up his second straight victory. Many believed that Maia’s slick first round submission would earn him “Submission of the Night”, unfortunately he was outdone by fellow Brazilian Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

UFC 156 is set to go down on February 2 and will no doubt be stacked as that is Super Bowl weekend. Already announced to be on the card is UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar, as well as former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
