Todd Duffee returns to the Octagon against Phil De Fries at UFC 155

|

Todd Duffee will make his return to the Octagon after nearly two years at UFC 155 when he meets Phil De Fries.

The Las Vegas Sun first reported the news Wednesday, and the UFC later confirmed it.

Duffee (7-2) hasn’t fought in the UFC since losing to Mike Russow at May of 2010. He was then released from the organization. UFC President Dana White said he was cut due to an attitude problem, however when MMASucka.com spoke with Duffee back in 2010 he said he “had no clue” as to why he was released and felt it had to be something personal.

Since leaving the UFC he has only fought twice, going  1-1 with a loss to Alistair Overeem at DREAM Dynamite 2010 and a win over Neil Grove at a Super Fight League event in April of 2012.

De Fries (9-1) was originally slated to face Matt Mitrione, but Mitrione stepped in to fight on short notice against Roy Nelson at the TUF 16 Finale with Shane Carwin withdrawing due to injury. He has gone 2-1 inside the Octagon, with his most recent victory coming over Oli Thompson at UFC on FOX: Shogun vs. Rua in August.

UFC 155 is set to go down on December 29 from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The event will be headlined by a heavyweight title rematch between Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez.
