Demetrious Johnson expects an all out war with John Dodson at UFC on FOX 6 main event

|

The UFC Flyweight Championship is up for grabs in the main event at UFC on FOX 6 on January 26 as champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson (16-2-1) will look to defend his championship gold against John Dodson (14-5).

This will be Johnson’s third headlining gig in the UFC; the first go round was a bantamweight title loss to Dominick Cruz, the second was a flyweight championship tournament semi-final. Despite these, headlining on FOX is another level of popularity and an exciting opportunity for Johnson.

“I’m very excited. It will be my second main event of the UFC cards in general. I’m looking forward to going out there and putting on a good show for the fans and the UFC.”

The FOX network has been promoting the event during its NFL playoff games, however they have not highlighted the fact the event is for the 125lb. championship.

It is a change of pace for fans when they watch the flyweights clash. Fighting at 125lbs makes the speed and action inside the Octagon off the charts, but unfortunately the fighters just aren’t getting the respect they deserve.

“It doesn’t change anything for me. They’re [FOX] doing a great job advertising it just in general itself. One step at a time, I haven’t noticed that, but I’ve noticed that they’re doing a good job just advertising itself.

I think eventually we will get the respect that we deserve and it happens. There are a lot of people out there that don’t respect the flyweights yet, but time will take its toll and we will get the respect that we deserve.”

On numerous occasions, Dodson has stated he would like to hold titles at three different weight classes, starting with the featherweight strap. That feat has never been accomplished or even attempted.

“Everybody has the right to dream big. I don’t see him beating [Jose] Aldo, I’ll tell you that right now or Dominick [Cruz] or me. At the same time, anything can happen on January 26.”

Every battle Johnson has been in has been an all out war and don’t expect this one to be any different.

“I always expect a war no matter who I fight.”
