TUF season 17 report: Episode 7

|

We begin with a recap of last week with Urijah Hall’s outlash and Josh Samman’s first round TKO of Tor Troeng. Tonight’s fight pits Team Jones’ Clint Hester against Jimmy Quinlan.

Back in the Jones locker room the boys discuss Hall’s verbal venom towards Adam Cella and their strategy to get him eliminated in the semi-finals.

The fighters get a night out on the town, heading out to Hooters. Gilbert Smith wastes no time to strip and put on a Hooters girl’s outfit. While the guys celebrate, Hall sits on the sideline.

Samann heads to an emergency center because he has a fear of a blood clot. Last time he tried out for The Ultimate Fighter a blood clot forced him off the series and came within an inch of losing his leg.

Luckily it was a false alarm. Samann will be free to compete again in a few weeks.

Quinlan discusses being a police officer and juggling the task of being a fighter and cop. Sonnen discusses that Hester is a bad styles match for him, feeling Quinlan wins every time if he gets it to the floor.

Hester discusses his easy upbringing and transitioning from being a professional boxer to MMA fighter and the support of his friends and family.

Both men were on point for their fight, Hester hitting 185 pounds and Quinlan tipping the scale at 185.5 pounds.

Back at the house, Quinlan and Hester are joking around with each other. There are clearly no hard feelings between the two.

Clint Hester vs. Jimmy Quinlan

Round one:

Hester gets tagged with a shot that puts him off guard early before Quinlan shoots in and slams Hester to the mat. From side control Quinlan isn’t able to get offence off, Hester getting to his feet against the cage and raining down elbows. Quinlan, the Pan-Am wrestling champ keeps a waist lock and gets it to the mat again momentarily. Hester breaks free and grabs a neck, looking for a choke but Quinlan breaks free. Hester presses Quinlan against the fence, stunning him with a knee as the wrestler goes into desperation mode, shooting for a takedown. Hester stuffs it and rains down punches but Quinlan is relentlessly looking for the takedown. He gets it to the mat with Hester’s back against the fence, Hester breaking free and firing another beautifully timed knee before being slammed to the mat by Quinlan. Team Sonnen’s Quinlan passes to half-guard but is unable to do anything before the buzzer sounds, 10-9 Hester.

Round two:

Hester shoots for a takedown, giving up his neck in the process, Quinlan dropping down but unable to keep the choke. Hester gets put down before being mounted by Quinlan. Hester gives his back attempting to break free as Jimmy fires down punishment and grabs a choke to finish the bout.

Sonnen approaches Jones afterwards giving him a Team Sonnen jersey to coach a practice in after losing their bet during bowling on last week’s episode.

By default the final fight of the quarter-finals pits Dylan Andrews against Zac Cummings.
