Bec Hyatt looking to learn from mistakes and taste victory at Invicta 5

|

Bec Hyatt will make her second appearance inside the Invicta cage this Friday night as she takes on the unknown, Jasminka Cive.

Still fairly young in her MMA career, the one they call “Rowdy” is just 4-2, but she has to pose of a veteran.

“I don’t really have an issue having to mentally prepare, like I do know a lot of fighters who have rituals and stuff, but I’m just really laid back and chill. I’m just more excited than anything and a lot of people get off at me and say ‘you should get off Facebook and start thinking about your fight’ and all that. I don’t think I need to and I’m pretty chill and contained with how my camp went. I don’t really need to do anything to mentally prepare, which is really good and thankfully I don’t have that problem.”

Her last trip to the cage was at Invicta FC 4 as she stepped up on a weeks notice to fight Carla Esparza for the strawweight title in the main event. Her wrestling defense was definitely a factor in that fight and ultimately caused her to not get her hand raised when the judges scorecards were read.

The Australian born fighter is aware of her shortcomings and is looking to use her last bout as a lesson.

“I’m always looking to improve my game – always striving to do that, just keep learning and keep evolving into a new fighter every time. I don’t want to be the same fighter that never improves, so I’m always working on everything. Wrestling played a huge part in that fight, considering I had a weeks notice to prepare for Carla. I was preparing for a striker, so I would probably change up my stance and I probably wouldn’t be so upright like I was in that fight. At that point I didn’t really care, I was just going out there to knock her head off and I tried my hardest to do that and she got the win. I’m happy for her; she’s champ now, so it’s pretty cool.”

Cive is undefeated at 5-0 in her professional MMA career and has also fought in Muay Thai since the age of 16. Whether her stand-up skills will be the best Hyatt has seen is yet to be determined, however the 24-year old will put her to the test.

“She hasn’t really been tested yet. She has fought a lot of lower class opponents because she lives in Austria and there just aren’t that many girls to fight in Austria. It’s just the same thing for me before I fought Carla, I had lower class opponents because no one else was there to fight. So, it’s hard to say how experienced or how good she really is until we get in there and I put it on her and test her.”

Hyatt shares her nickname of “Rowdy” with another famous MMA star: UFC women’s champion Ronda Rousey. It has come up on numerous occasions as to whether Hyatt would change her nickname because of it and she does not feel that it’s necessary.

“No, it seems to bother a lot of other people more than it bothers me. A lot of people ask me if I’m going to change it now, because Ronda is so big and what not, but I don’t see a problem with it. I’m from Australia, I’m in a different weight class and I can just be the lean ‘Rowdy,’ I don’t really mind.”

If you are a fan of Hyatt, then you’re likely to follow her Twitter or check out her Facebook page for updates. The “Rowdy” one has become popular through her social media use.

“I call it ‘Fight Sports Entertainment,’ you have to entertain people and make them want to care about your fighting. You can have all the skills in the world and win all your fights, but if no one cares about you then where’s it going to get you. It definitely plays a big part in my career.”
