UFC 161 adds Alexis Davis vs. Rosi Sexton

|

Canada will get their first ever UFC women’s bout as Ontario’s Alexis Davis will take on female fighting pioneer Rosi Sexton at UFC 161 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

UFC officials announced the match-up on Thursday.

Davis (13-5) is on a two-fight winning streak, both of which came under the Invicta FC banner. Most recently she defeated Shayna Baszler by rear-naked choke at Invicta FC 4 in January. The Canadian fighter will look to defeat her opponent and climb towards a title opportunity with the organization.

Sexton (13-2) has not fought since June of last year when she defeated Aisling Daly by decision at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 47 in Dublin, Ireland. Sexton was expected to fight in October, but her fight against Sheila Gaff was pulled from the Cage Warriors 49 fight card due to an injury to Gaff. “The Surgeon” is currently on a three-fight winning streak and 8-1 in her last nine fights.

UFC 161 will be the organization’s first trip to Winnipeg, Canada. It will take place at the MPS Centre and will be headlined by an interim UFC bantamweight title fight between Renan Barao and Eddie Wineland. Also featured on the Winnipeg card will be Jake Shields vs. Tyron Woodley, Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Dan Henderson vs. Rashad Evans and Soa Palelei vs. Stipe Miocic.
