Rory MacDonald faces off against Jake Ellenberger at UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle

|

A welterweight tilt is set to go down at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington as Rory MacDonald will take on Jake Ellenberger.

Ellenberger posted via his official Facebook page, “THE BEST WELTERWEIGHT IN THE WORLD RETURNS THE END OF JULY!” Spencer Kyte of The Province was first to break the fight which takes place at UFC on FOX 8. UFC officials later confirmed it.

MacDonald (14-1) is currently riding a four-fight winning streak stemming back to 2011. He was expected to take on Carlos Condit at UFC 158 last month, but was forced to withdraw due to injury and replaced by Johny Hendricks.

“Ares” lone loss comes to Carlos Condit in his second UFC fight, since then he has defeated top talent including Nate Diaz, Mike Pyle, Che Mills and most recently B.J. Penn at UFC on FOX 5.

Ellenberger (29-6) comes into UFC on FOX 8 on a two fight winning streak. “The Juggernaut” is coming off a dominant knockout over Nate Marquardt at UFC 158 which won him “Knockout of the Night” honors.

The 28-year old has inched himself ever so close to a title shot going 8-1 in his last nine fights.

Expect MacDonald vs. Ellenberger to serve as one of the main card fights (most likely main or co-main event) on the FOX card.

UFC on FOX 8 will go down on July 27 from the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington. Mac Danzig vs. Melvin Guillard is the only fight that has been officially announced for the event thus far. While no main event has been announced yet, UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson (Washington State native)  is vying for a spot on the card too.
