Jospeh Benavidez vs. Jussier da Silva slated for UFC on FS1 3

The flyweights will be bringing fast and furious action to UFC on FS1 3 with word that “Joe-Jitsu” will be taking on “Formiga.”

Both MMAOpinion.com and Sherdog.com are reporting that the two will collide on Sept. 4th an the Ginasio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, Brazil.

Joseph Benavidez vs. Jussier da Silva slated for UFC on FS1 3

Joseph Benavidez (18-3) is Team Alpha Male’s lightest star, and considered the #2 flyweight by many people. A to-the-blueprint TAM fighter, Benavidez has strong wrestling and has been building his striking chops under the tutelage of new head coach Duane “BANG” Ludwig. With two wins a row, will a third over “Formiga” earn him a rematch against champion Demetrious Johnson?

Jussier “Formiga” da Silva (15-2) was considered the world’s best flyweight for a long time, until he first tasted defeat at the hands of Ian McCall back in 2011. Naturally, da Silva was a shoo-in for the UFC’s flyweight division, but had the unfortunate luck of running into John Dodson’s fists upon making his debut. With a win over Chris Cariaso in his second bout, “Formiga” is now in a position where one spectacular win could catapult him into contendership in the developing weight class. Will he be able to get that over Benavidez?

UFC on FS1 3 goes down on Sept. 4th from the Ginasio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, Federal District, Brazil. So far, only the Benavidez-Formiga bout has been announced. Stay tuned for more on this and other upcoming events here at MMASucka!
