No touch of the gloves to start the fight and a clinch forced a takedown by Carmouche. When the two made their way back to their feet, Carmouche landed another takedown against the cage. As the two stood up, Carmouche attempted to take Andrade’s back, but Andrade wanted none of it and shoved her off. Andrade locked up a guillotine choke and fell back into guard. With the arm in, Carmouche looked to be in no danger and held on for the remainder of the round.

Andrade came in with some punches and Carmouche landed a powerful takedown. She ended up in side control and eventually moved in to mount. While in the mounted position she postured up and dropped down bombs forcing Andrade to turtle. Carmouche took the back and still swarmed her with punches. With three minutes left Carmouche flattened Andrade out and attempted the rear naked choke. Again Andrade worked her way out of it, but Carmouche continued to land. Referee Herb Dean had seen enough and called an end to the fight just over a minute to go.

Liz Carmouche:

“I knew no matter what, even if she had it sunk in all the way, I was not going to tap. It’s not in my nature. The problem was, she had it so tight, and she has short arms so it was difficult for me to try and pry her hands apart. But, it was just a matter of me trying to pop my head out and get free.”

Jessica Andrade:

“I really thought I had her in the first round. In the second round, my plan was to go in with my striking and try to hold her down. It just didn’t happen.”
