“The California Kid” Urijah Faber stepped inside the Octagon for the third time in 2013 at UFC Fight Night 26 against Yuri Alcantara.
Almost immediately as the bell sounded in round 1, Alcantara threw Faber to the mat and took mount. It looked like Faber was safe as he took the leg, that was until Alcantara took the back of “The California Kid”. Faber was already bloodied with three-minutes left in the round and Alcantara on his back, but held on and was able to scramble back to his feet. Immediately upon the standup, Faber brought Alcantara to the mat and dropping down big elbows. Faber finished the round utilizing his very active top game.
The second round started with Faber looking for a big kick, but fell to the mat. Upon getting to the feet, he tossed Alcantara to the mat decisively. A big elbow that Faber landed from inside Alcantara’s guard midway through the round opened up the Brazilian’s forehead. With two minutes left in the second round the total strikes landed were 37 to 1 in favor of Faber. Faber landed his second takedown of the round with just over thirty seconds left in the second stanza and finished with some more big elbows.
Faber used his speed to get inside on Alcantara and land some nice flurries to start the round. A takedown was landed by Faber and wound up inside Alcantara’s guard. Alcantara used his tricky guard to almost pull off a triangle, but lucky for Faber he was able to roll his way out of it. The Team Alpha Male product was all over Alcantara like a wet blanket for the entire third round.
Faber proved why he is still a force to be reckoned with in the UFC bantamweight division.
