Matt Grice in car accident; currently in critical condition

UFC featherweight Matt Grice was seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident on Sunday night, and is currently in critical condition at Oklahoma University Presbyterian Hospital.

According to reports from Oklahoma City’s News 9, the 32 year-old Grice was stopped at a red light on Sunday night when his vehicle was hit from behind. Additionally, it was reported that Grice was underwent brain surgery shortly after his arrival at OU Presbyterian Hospital.

Matt “The Real One” Grice (15-5) is currently on his second tour of duty with the UFC. An accomplished wrestler who does double duty as a police officer in his home state of Oklahoma, “The Real One” has used a combination of solid striking and strong grappling to fight his way through into the big leagues. Last seen losing a split-decision war to Dennis Bermudez, Grice was scheduled to take on Jeremy Larsen at UFC 166 before his accident. No official prognosis or timetable for recovery has been released at this time.

  1. Fox 25 in Oklahoma City is reporting, via Grice’s wife Caroline, that Matt is out of surgery and is currently being treated for bleeding on his brain.
  2. The Twitter account of his friend Daniel Rubenstein said he’s out of surgery. Was told his pupils are small which means there is brain activity. Won’t know more til Tomorrow AM.
  3. In an ICU room. Vitals stable but still in very serious condition. Docs will MRI/Catscan in AM & determine best course of plan
