Asian MMA Throwback – ONE FC 3: Eddie Ng vs Jian Kai Chee

|

A lot can be same said about Evolve MMA’s Eddie Ng (6-1). He’s a pretty nice guy to have a conversation with, he had a rough childhood in England where he was racially discriminated against and he has a strict diet when it comes to consuming food.

But bar none, the 27-year-old is a killer inside a Mixed Martial Arts cage, where he possesses a 100% finish rate in six pro bouts.

Asian MMA Throwback – ONE FC 3: Eddie Ng vs Jian Kai Chee

In today’s edition of Asian MMA Throwback, Fight Sport Asia goes back in time to ONE FC 3: War of the Lions in Singapore, where Ng faced Muayfit’s Jian Kai Chee (4-4). Ng, a fighter with an almost impenetrable defense, was determined to showcase his all-round facet in the MMA game, while Kai Chee, was more of a stand-up Muay Thai fighter, who loved the striking game more than anything else with a view in putting Ng’s striking credentials to the test.

The Ng-Kai Chee bout took place on the main card on March 31, 2012, with Ng fancied by many to walk away with his hand raised.

And indeed he did.

The bell rung, both fighters touched gloves, and Ng imeediately pressed the action early on, forcing his opponent to retreat. As the Malaysian was circling to his right, Ng pounced on a jab-straight combination, and capitalized with some heavy knees when his opponent, looking dazed, went for a takedown.

After a Guillotine choke attempt in which Kai Chee defended well, Ng gained full mount, and started landing some heavy bombs. Once referee Matt Hume felt Kai Chee wasn’t defending himself well enough, he stopped the contest, declaring Ng the winner by TKO.

The whole bout lasted less than a minute.

Ng is set to feature on Friday’s ONE FC 11: Total Domination fight card, where a win could possibly propel the Hong Kong-native towards a shot at the Lightweight title. He takes on Peter Davis, his third consecutive opponent from Malaysia-based Muayfit, after Arnaud Lepont and the aforementioned Jian Kai Chee. And while Ng just views this bout as just “another fight and opponent”, Davis sees it otherwise, having stated in interviews that his match-up with Ng will serve as retribution for his team mates’ defeats.

Kai Chee, in the meantime, was last seen in February of this year, where he rebounded with a Unanimous Decision victory at ONE FC 7: Return of Warriors against Team Buffet’s AJ Lias Mansor.
