Demian-Maia

Top 10 welterweights will collide at UFC 170, with word that Rory MacDonald and Demian Maia will do battle on the main card.

Demian Maia vs Rory MacDonald announced for UFC 170

UFC officials confirmed the bout last night.

Rory “Ares” MacDonald (15-2) was last seen on the losing end of a split decision against the Robbie Lawler at UFC 167. Prior to that, the young Canadian had been on a 5 fight winning streak that included victories over B.J. Penn and Jake Ellenberger. The Tristar MMA product now claims to have “the fire” again, and will be looking to prove it in his next outing. Will this surge in fighting spirit help him get the win over the crafty Maia?

Demian Maia (18-5) is also coming off a split decision loss, this one to Jake Shields at UFC Fight Night 29. This defeat snapped a 3 fight winning streak that had begun after Maia made the drop down to welterweight. With wins over everyone from Chael Sonnen to John Fitch, Maia is as dangerous as they come with his jiu jitsu game. Will he be able to bring it to bear and choke his way to victory over “Ares?”

UFC 170 goes down Feb. 22nd, 2014 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV. The main event is currently a light heavyweight bout pitting Rashad Evans against Daniel Cormier. Stay tuned to MMASucka for more on this and other events.
