At World Series of Fighting 8, the organization crowned inaugural champions in the women’s strawweight and lightweight division.
Both bouts were exciting fights — for one corner at least. The respective bouts lasted a total of three-minutes and fifty-four seconds.
Two new champions crowned at WSOF 8 – Justin Gaethje and Jessica Aguilar claim gold
Jessica Aguilar entered the decagon against a fairly unknown Alida Gray. Aguilar showed her veteran spirit early and was able to lock in a tight arm triangle choke to finish the fight just two-minutes and fourty-five seconds in to the first round. This was the first time women had entered the WSOF cage and Aguilar became the inaugural strawweight champ.
The main event bout featured Justin Gaethje against Richard Patishnock. The original bout was between Gaethje and Lewis Gonzalez, however “Lethal” was forced to withdraw and in stepped Patishnock. The Team Chamber fighter was coming off back to back wins against Igor and Gregor Gracie, however was still young in his MMA career. Gaethje walked in and completely mauled Patishnock with punches and elbows, which forced the referee to stop the bout at one-minute and nine seconds. The victory not only moved his undefeated record to 11-0, but also crowned him the inaugural WSOF lightweight champion.
WSOF 8 went down from The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Also picking up a big victory was Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, who knocked out Mike Kyle in the evening’s co-main event.
