Nikita Krylov steps in for Thiago Silva to take on Ovince St. Preux at UFC 171

After Thiago Silva’s arrest and ultimate demise from the UFC, heavyweight Nikita Krylov will drop down to light heavyweight to take on Ovince St. Preux at UFC 171.

UFC officials announced the fight on Friday evening.

Krylov (15-3) is 1-1 inside the Octagon, with his debut a loss to Soa Palelei at UFC 164 in August of last year. He followed up with an impressive 25-second knockout against Walt Harris at UFC on FOX 10 in January.

St. Preux (14-5) is coming off a giant knockout victory over Cody Donovan at UFC Fight Night 26. St.Preux is on a three-fight winning streak and since coming in to the UFC from Strikeforce he has won two in a row.

The Krylov vs. St. Preux fight will likely take place on the preliminary portion of the UFC 172 fight card, however it is yet to be officially annoucned.

UFC 171 will go down on March 15, 2014 from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Headlining the event will be Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler for the vacant welterweight championship.
