Junior dos Santos injured, out of TUF: Brazil 3 Finale main event

|

After losing the coaches’ fight between Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva due to injury, the TUF: Brazil 3 Finale has taken another major hit. One half of the main event, Junior dos Santos, has reportedly injured his hand and is no longer able to take on Stipe Miocic on May 31st.

The story was initially broken by the Brazilian Portuguese-language fight news site Combate, with comments from the UFC’s Brazilian CEO, Grace Tourinho. The news was then reported in English by MMAFighting.com‘s Guillherme Cruz.

“Cigano” (16-3) has not fought since losing his trilogy bout with Cain Velasquez for the UFC Heavyweight Title at last October’s UFC 166. The division’s best boxer, dos Santos earned that bout by knocking out the ultra-durable Mark Hunt in his fight prior to that. A timeline has yet to be reported for his return at press time.

The TUF: Brazil 3 Finale is scheduled for May 31st at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Neither a replacement opponent for Stipe Miocic or a new main event has been announced at this time. Stay tuned to MMASucka.com for more on this and other events.
