Stefan Struve suffers near fainting spell in locker room, out of UFC 175 fight with Matt Mitrione

Stefan Struve pulled from his scheduled UFC 175 bout with Matt Mitrione

Stefan Struve was all set for his much anticipated return to the octagon tonight at UFC 175 in Las Vegas, but a near fainting spell for the Dutchman, pre-fight, forced doctors to cancel his scheduled bout with Matt Mitrione.

Officials confirmed the news just after the first fight’s broadcast on PPV.

The fight was apparently called off after Struve suffered a blackout, dealing with an elevated heart rate.

The UFC soon issued an official statement, articulating the issue:

“Stefan Struve suffered a non-life-threatening, near-fainting spell backstage. Afterwards, the medical team did not feel he was fit to compete. With his health and safety in mind, he’s been removed from the card and is currently under the care of the medical staff. We will provide further updates as they become available.”

Struve was out of action for more than a year and was forced to face a spell on the sidelines, after a heart condition rendered him unable to compete. He made a full recovery earlier this year, before his latest tussle with Matt Mitrione was booked. Now, however, this latest incident certainly propels questions as to whether fans will ever see the Dutch submission ace in action once again.

UFC president Dana White further confirmed that Struve was taken to a medical facility immediately to be treated.

Everybody here at MMASucka.com wishes Struve a speedy recovery. Be sure to keep it locked to the site as more updates on this issue surfaces over the coming days.
