UFC officials announced the bout on Twitter Thursday morning.

MacDonald (17-2) has gone on a two-fight winning streak since his split decision loss to Robbie Lawler at UFC 167 last November. He started off his 2014 with a big decision win against Demian Maia at UFC 170 and then put on a performance of a lifetime against Tyron Woodley in front of his hometown at UFC 174 in Vancouver.

Saffiedine (15-3) has only fought once in the UFC, but it was the main event and he earned himself the unanimous decision against Hyun Gyu Lim in January. The final Strikeforce Welterweight Champion is riding a five-fight winning streak dating back to 2011, with his last loss being to the aforementioned Woodley under the Strikeforce banner.

The Halifax card will be the second of the day, as UFC Fight Night 53 goes down from Sweden earlier in the day.

UFC Fight Night 54 goes down on October 4 from the Halifax Metro Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
