Matt Mitrione vs. Gabriel Gonzaga set for UFC on FOX 13 in Phoenix

|

Two heavyweights are set to share the cage with each other at the fourth and final “big FOX” card of the year, UFC on FOX 13 in Phoenix, AZ.

UFC officials announced the matchup Friday afternoon.

Mitrione (8-3) is currently riding a two-fight win streak, most recently finishing Derrick Lewis in 41 seconds earlier this month at UFC Fight Night 50 in Connecticut.  Prior to that, he also picked up a first round knockout over Shawn Jordan last March.  He will look to crack into the top 15 and possibly top 10 with a third straight win, this time over a ranked opponent.

Gonzaga (16-8) will be looking to get back into the win column in Phoenix.  He last one almost a year ago, and it’ll be over a year by the time fight day rolls around.  He won two straight last year but his winning streak was broken by top heavyweight Stipe Miocic earlier this year.

UFC on FOX 13 takes place at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, AZ on Dec. 13.  It is the fourth-quarter FOX event, and is rumored to be headlined by Junior dos Santos vs. Stipe Miocic but nothing is officially announced in regards to the main event.  The main event is expected to air live on FOX with prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
