The co-main event was for the UFC Lightweight Championship, as Anthony Pettis took on Gilbert Melendez.

Melendez instantly clinched Pettis up against the cage and worked for a takedown. On the break, Pettis threw a quick high kick and Melendez wound up landing the takedown. Melendez pushed his way to Pettis’ back with one hook in. Pettis broke away and Melendez took the center of the cage. Melendez threw some pitter patter punches to once again push the fight to the cage and was able to land a takedown. He followed up with some punches from the top. Pettis got back to his feet, threw a high kick and a spinning back kick, but Melendez once again took the fight up against the fence. Pettis threw a flying knee but it didn’t phase Melendez and he threw a few punches to get back to the clinch.

Melendez started the second by pressuring Pettis with short punches and pushed up against the cage. On the break, both fighters threw big punches. Pettis landed a nice short punch, but Melendez again pushed Pettis up against the cage. Pettis returned to the middle of the cage and landed a front kick to the face. Melendez dropped down for takedown and Pettis locked in a tight guillotine to force Melendez to tap out.
