UFC 143: Diaz v Condit

Welterweight’s Carlos Condit and Demian Maia were expected to face off at UFC 202, however that bout has been shifted to the main event slot of UFC on FOX 21 in Vancouver on August 27.

The main event announcement came from Neil Davidson of The Canadian Press on Tuesday afternoon.

Condit (30-8) last fought to a split decision loss to Robbie Lawler at UFC 195 in January. That outing earned the two combatants ‘Fight of the Night’ honors. Prior to that bout, “The Natural Born Killer” had been out since May 2015, as he was expected to face Lawler in November of 2015, however the champ was forced out of action.

Maia (23-6) is riding a five-fight winning streak and is currently ranked third in the 170-pound division. He has racked up victories over Alexander Yakovlev, Ryan LaFlare, Neil Magny, Gunnar Nelson and most recently Matt Brown at UFC 198 in May.

This will be the second time Condit has fought in front of the Vancouver crowd, as he defeated the hometown kid Rory MacDonald at UFC 115 in 2010.

UFC on FOX 21 goes down on August 27 from The Rogers Arena in Vancouver, B.C. With the announcement of the main event, a few other match-ups were announced for UFC Vancouver as well, including: Ryan Janes vs. Adam Hunter, Shane Campbell vs. Felipe Silva and Sam Alvey vs. Kevin Casey.
