“Crusher” returns to Japan on NYE.

Earlier this month, Kawajiri asked for his release from the UFC, and on Wednesday night it was confirmed that the UFC obliged.

Tatsuya Kawajiri signs with Rizin Fighting Federation

In December of this year, Tatsuya “Crusher” Kawajiri will return home to fight in Japan for the first time since 2012. If he gets the fight on December 31 as planned, it will be his first fight in Japan for the first time in exactly four years.

The signing was announced by RIZIN FF late Wednesday night at a press conference.

Kawajiri (35-10-2) is a veteran of PRIDE FC, DREAM and Shooto who has also had bouts in Strikeforce and ONE Championships prior to signing with the UFC in 2013. Since joining the UFC, Kawajiri has gone 3-3, but lost his final two bouts in the promotion. His last outing saw him have a fantastic fight with perennial contender Cub Swanson, losing a unanimous decision after 15 minutes.
