Surging heavyweight Curtis Blaydes picked up his third straight win tonight, securing a decision win against Mark Hunt in Perth tonight at UFC 221.

“Razor” got caught with a counter right hand early in the first round, and looked severely hurt. The American was looking to survive, but got cracked again, and stiffened up by Hunt; at this point, it seemed to be close to over, but Blaydes soon scored a takedown, and used the remainder of Round 1 to recover.

In round two, he was the fresher fighter, and scored takedowns almost at will, dominating the round from the top position. The third frame was much of the same, with Blaydes spending the majority of the frame on top, landing short shots, doing what he had to in order to secure the victory.

The scorecards read 30-26, 30-26, and 29-27, all in favour of Blaydes. The 26-year-old now moves to 9-1, with a 4-1, 1NC record under the UFC banner. Hunt lost for the third time in his last four fights. The 43-year-old has been fighting in the UFC since 2010, and has faced the best of the best, amassing a 8-5-1, 1NC record.
