Former Olympian Yoel Romero got it done again tonight, and once again in devastating fashion. Romero finished Luke Rockhold with a brutal left hand in the third round of their main event tilt.

The interim middleweight championship was on the line only for Rockhold, as Romero missed weight, but it would seem he may be challenging for the championship next against undisputed champion Robert Whittaker, whom he has already faced.

Yoel Romero finishes Luke Rockhold

In this bout, Rockhold started well, using his distance to land straight punches from the outside. In the first frame, Romero did a very good job of checking leg kicks, which seemed to hurt Rockhold’s leg. The ATT product continued to use his range, and in my opinion won the first.

The second was a different story, with Romero using more of his explosiveness to hurt Rockhold twice. The American stayed calm, and attempted to implement his game plan again, but it seemed as if Romero secured the second frame.

In the third round, Rockhold started to looked like he was successfully implementing the plan, and it was going well, until Romero landed a ferocious left hand. The 40-year-old cracked Rockhold on the temple with the left, before landing a vicious left hand whilst the former middleweight champion was on the canvas.

Romero puts himself right back into title contention, and improves his UFC record to 9-1. Rockhold is 1-2 in his last three; prior to his loss to Michael Bisping, he had put together a five fight win streak in the UFC.
