With his last fight being back in October of 2011 against Richie “Hellboy” Whitson, Kajan Johnson (19-10-1) is aching to get back in the cage. He had that opportunity with The Score Fighting Series against veteran Rich Clementi, when an injury occured during practice.
I was training for Rich Clementi and I was going to be fighting him on The Score Fighting Series. He had signed, but we were just waiting for the commission to sign off on it. I thought it was going to be a really good fight. During training camp I was sparring and I ended up eating a right hand from one of the guys that was here in the last minute of the last round. I went down on the bell; no luck, it always happens at the end. I found out that I fractured my orbital.
Seeming to have no luck, Kajan ended up having to have surgery on his eye. With him on the sidelines he has had the opportunity to take everything in at the Tristar Gym in Montreal and be a real student of the game.
I ended up having to have surgery at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, which was a success on my orbital floor [not on the tripod orbital that I had fractured on the other side in 2005] this one was on the floor of my eye. They went in and they put a titanium plate covering the floor and now I’m just waiting for my double vision to go away. I’m training in the gym, just working technique with my eye protection on and really work on healing some other injuries that I’ve accumulated. This has given me the time to heal my body and study a lot of technique.
His vision is blurred and seeing double, so the man known as “Ragin” has not been able to even hit the pads these days. Hoping to make a return to the cage in late May or early June is what he is expecting.
I’m hoping that I’ll be able to start training again in full either in late March or early April. That’s putting me back to fighting anywhere between late May to early June depending on the injury. I’m pretty optimistic with it and I think I’ll be able to come back pretty quickly, but I don’t want to rush things. I know that I only have two eyes and I’m even annoyed with the vision loss that I have right now. I mean I see double, when my chin is down I’m seeing double. I know it will go away with time. I just want to get right back in there, but i can’t.
With his fight against Rich Clementi being cancelled the question at hand is will Kajan fight his next fight with The Score Fighting Series? He remains optimistic that one of the bigger organizations like the UFC or Strikeforce will give him a call.
You never know, the UFC might call, Strikeforce might call. My records good, I’m hungry, I’m still young and I’m very marketable. There’s no reason why some of these bigger organizations wouldn’t be looking at me. I’m hoping that I get a call, but if not I’m still down to fight for The Score Fighting Series or whoever is going to give me a good opponent and pay me some money.
Training at the Tristar gym in Montreal, Kajan gets to have an inside look at Georges St-Pierre’s training. We all have heard that Georges is hoping that Nick Diaz defeats Carlos Condit at UFC 143 this Saturday, how does Kajan see this fight going down?
I’ve got Diaz in it, I think he’s going to be able to push the pace on Condit. I think he’s more skilled than Condit. Condit is very very tough and he finds a way to win, he’s kind of like [Michael] Bisping. I think that Diaz is the same way, but with a bit more skill. The only difference is going to be Muay Thai, because Condit’s Muay Thai is better than BJ’s [Penn], although it’s not even that great.
Even if Diaz does win this fight, from the sounds of it St-Pierre won’t even be back to full training until the summer, which would mean he will not be back in the cage until at the earliest October. What this means is that Diaz would more than likely have another fight before his eventual match up with GSP. Another one of Johnson’s training partners is in the welterweight mix and that man is Rory MacDonald. Kajan has an interesting look at how that fight would play out and if Condit were to win how that matchup would unfold as well.
That would be really rad. I’ve actually talked to Rory about that and I think he would love to have that fight. I also know he wants Condit back and I think that would be really cool to see the rematch. I know Rory would absolutely make him look like a clown and probably put him out in a round. I’ll bet you any money that if Rory fights Condit again he knocks him out in one round.
