Calgary gets Mitch Gagnon vs. Bryan Caraway as first bout announced for UFC 149

Last Wednesday (Mar.21) the UFC made the major announcement of Calgary, Toronto and Montreal all getting shows in 2012. The first Canadian stop is Calgary on July 21 for UFC 149.

Today UFC officials announced the first bout for UFC 149, which is a bantamweight tilt between Canadian Mitch Gagnon and Bryan Caraway. “Showdown Joe” Ferraro posted the rumoured bout earlier in the day.

Caraway (16-5) is best known for his time on the Ultimate Fighter Season 14, as well as being Meisha Tate’s boyfriend. However he has a tad bit more experience than the Canadian Gagnon and goes into this bout 1-0 in his UFC career as he submitted Dustin Neace in his debut. Caraway has also fought for the WEC, Strikeforce, EliteXC and many other regional shows.

Gagnon (8-1) who hails from Sudbury, Ontario was expected to make his UFC debut against another former TUF fighter, Johnny Bedford, but that fight was scrapped due to Gagnon having visa issues. Look for him to try to make a statement in front of his hometown crowd.

The main event for UFC 149 is expected to have Jose Aldo defend his featherweight title, however his opponent has not yet been named.
