Matt Mitrione replaces Shane Carwin at TUF 16 Finale against Roy Nelson

Former cast member of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ reality show Matt Mitrione has stepped in for the injured Shane Carwin to take on Roy Nelson at December’s TUF 16 Finale.

UFC officials announced verbal agreements for the match-up late Thursday afternoon.

Mitrione (5-1) was originally slated to face Phil De Fries at UFC 155 in December. Officials say De Fries will stay on the card and a replacement will be found.

The former TUF contestant was 5-0 inside the Octagon, until he suffered his first career loss against Cheick Kongo at UFC 137.

Nelson (17-7) last fought at UFC 146 in May, defeating Dave Herman by first-round knockout.

The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale goes down Dec. 15 from The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The event also features the welterweight finals of TUF 16.
