Dana White says Georges St-Pierre wants Nick Diaz; Johny Hendricks pleads his case

Who will Georges St-Pierre fight next?

The number one contender in the Welterweight division is without a doubt Johny Hendricks; the possibility of a super-fight with Anderson Silva is up in the air and Nick Diaz’s name has been in the mix when he returns from his suspension.

At today’s UFC on FOX 5 pre-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White said that St-Pierre has requested Diaz in his next fight.

“Georges St. Pierre went on vacation, but when he came back we were talking about Anderson Silva. He said, ‘I want Nick Diaz. Me and Nick Diaz have unfinished business. We were supposed to fight. That’s the fight that I want.’ So, Georges St-Pierre has been a phenomenal champion, just a great guy to deal with for us. He doesn’t ask for things. So if he wants to fight Nick Diaz, and Nick Diaz wants to fight him, then that’s probably the fight we’ll make…. Georges has been off for a year. (Silva is) a tough fight for him to come back to. He asked personally for the (Diaz) fight.”

Many people question why Diaz would get the immediate shot, when he is coming off a loss and a suspension. The true number one contender in most people’s minds is Johny Hendricks. He knocked off the top talent in the welterweight division, including Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck and Martin Kampmann. Two out of three of those fights by nasty KO.

However, White feels like he owes it to St-Pierre to give the champ what he wants.

“Listen, Johny Hendricks has had great fights. You talk about winning in spectacular fashion, this guy hits people so hard they skid across the Octagon. (But) he’s in no position to demand anything. Georges St. Pierre is the champ, he has been forever. If that’s the fight he wants, then that’s probably the fight we’ll give him if Diaz accepts it.”

Hendricks took to Twitter and pleaded with White to get a shot.

I don’t really know what to say but please @danawhite give me a shot @GeorgesStPierre if u want a fight I will give him anything he can take

White quickly responded to Hendricks’ request.

@JohnyHendricks I agree that u deserve it and u will get ur shot

Hendricks has said that he will sit out and wait until he gets a title shot.

If Diaz does get the shot at St-Pierre then Hendricks could be waiting for almost an entire year to get his much anticipated title shot.
