UFC on FOX 5: The Big Shots

SEATTLE – MMASucka.com is on scene at Seattle’s KeyArena for the UFC on FOX 5 event.

With that we are debuting our newest column, “The Big Shots.” We will let you know all the big shots during each fight, whether they are punches, kicks, elbows, submissions or any other cool shot.

Without any further ado, we present “The Big Shots”.

Benson Henderson vs. Nate Diaz

Round 1

  • Henderson begins with a couple leg kicks
  • Following the clinch Diaz lands a clean elbow
  • Henderson gets a big takedown and stands in Diaz’s open guard
  • Diaz turtles and ends up back on his feet
  • Henderson throws a leg kick that drops Diaz
  • The round ends and the two stand face to face
Round 2
  • Henderson throws yet another leg kick that spins Diaz
  • Henderson gets a takedown and as Diaz stands up he lands a nice high-kick
  • An elbow from the clinch from Henderson lands
  • Henderson lands a big shot that drops him after throwing a few at Diaz’s knee
  • He ends up taking Diaz’s back, but only for a second
  • Diaz lands a judo throw, but the two end up on their feet
Round 3
  • Diaz throws a hook and Henderson lands the takedown
  • Diaz attempts a heel hook, but fails
  • Henderson gets the takedown and ends up in Diaz’s guard
  • Henderson lands a big body shot and a couple of elbows as Diaz is trashtalking him
  • Both men are looking for leg locks, but in the scramble Henderson takes Diaz’s back
  • In a leg lock attempt, Henderson ends up in the splits
  • Henderson dropped with a quick punch, but again ends up in Diaz’s guard
  • Henderson lands an axe kick to the body of a grounded Diaz to end the round
Round 4
  • Henderson lands the takedown and again takes Diaz’s back
  • Diaz is in turtle position and Henderson lands a clean knee to the body
  • When the two stand, once again Henderson takes Diaz down
Round 5
  • Henderson belly to back suplexes Diaz to the mat
  • Follows up with some ground and pound from Diaz’s open guard
  • Diaz lands another judo takedown, but Henderson ends up on top
  • The two finish the fight with Diaz kicking the wind
  • Following the bell Diaz raises Henderson’s hand

Alexander Gustafsson vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua

Round 1

  • Shogun rushes in for a punch and GustafSSon lands a big punch to drop him
  • While on the ground Shogun grabs a leg and goes for a knee bar
  • On the way up Shogun gets Gustafsson’s back and lands a knee to the face
  • Gustafsson fakes a jab and takes Shogun down
  • Shogun fakes the takedown and lands a big shot and ends up taking Gustafsson to the mat
Round 2
  • Both men come out swinging in the second round
  • Shogun comes rushing in and Gustafsson takes him down
  • Both men swing for the homerun
  • Gustafsson takes Shogun down and ends up in Shoguns guard
  • Shogun manages to get up and ends up clinched against the cage
  • Gustafsson once again takes Shogun down and on the way up lands a knee to the face
  • By the end of round 2 Shogun looks extremely gassed and is a bloody mess
Round 3
  • Gustafsson lands a knee to start the round
  • Gustafsson takes Shogun down and takes his back for a mere second
  • Gustafsson ducks under a punch and lands a clean shot to the body
  • He then takes Shogun to the mat and ends up in his guard
  • Gustafsson is picking Shogun apart
  • Gustafsson lands a clean front kick to the jaw
  • To finish the round Gustafsson lands a final takedown

B.J. Penn vs. Rory MacDonald

Round 1

  • MacDonald lands a knee as B.J. comes in for a takedwon
  • MacDonald lands a leg kick followed by a high kick
  • Penn lands a big right of his own
  • Penn using his jab effectively and uses it to attempt a takedown
  • Penn stuffs MacDonald’s first takedown attempt
  • MacDonald landed a big punch which wobbled Penn
  • Follows up with some kicks
Round 2
  • MacDonald has Penn against the cage and picks him apart with punches to the body and head
  • The reach has come into play as MacDonald is using his jab and front kick
  • Penn lands a beautiful one two combo
  • MacDonald lands a big body kick and follows up with a punch to the body
  • Penn is a blody mess and MacDonald is punishing him to the body
  • Penn is wincing in pain
  • Just when it looked like Penn was out he lands a nice punching combo
  • MacDonald lands the first takedown of the fight and ends up in Penn’s guard
Round 3
  • Penn gets a takedown, but MacDonald musters his way back up
  • MacDonald throws a spinning back kick but misses and slips
  • MacDonald again uses his reach to land a nice jab jab straight
  • MacDonald clinches and on the break lands an elbow followed by a right

Matt Brown vs. Mike Swick

Round 1

  • Brown gets the first takedown of the fight and ends up in half-guard
  • Swick sweeps but ends up in an arm in guillotine
  • Brown throws up a tight triangle, but Swick wraps his legs around in an attempt to break the submission attempt
  • Somehow Swick is able to stand up
Rounds 2
  • Brown stalks Swick and lands a glancing elbow
  • Brown lands a right-left-right combo to drop Swick like a tree. That’s all she wrote

Yves Edwards vs. Jeremy Stephens

Round 1

  • Stephens comes out with a flying knee, but Edwards steps aside
  • Edwards lands a big shot and drops Stephens and finishes the fight with some ground and pound

Raphael Assuncao vs. Mike Easton

Round 1

  • Both men throw spinning back kicks within the first 30 seconds, but miss
  • A big takedown attempt by Assuncao was muscled off by Easton
Round 2
  • High kick by Easton was followed by a combo from Assuncao
  • Eye poke from Assuncao catches Easton, but they continue to fight
  • The first cheers of the fight occur when the two throw a flurry
  • Assuncao lands the biggest shot of the fight thus far; a low blow
  • The round ends with the crowd booing very loud
Round 3
  • A body kick from Assuncao lands and all we hear is “thud”
  • Assuncao lands the first takedown of the fight, but they very quickly get back to their feet

Ramsey Nijem vs. Joe Proctor

Round 1

  • Proctor grabs a hold of a guillotine choke when Nijem pushes to the cage
  • On the break the two throw and Nijem gets a thai plum and lands a knee
  • Nijem throws a flying front kick that drops Proctor he follows up with some ground and pound
  • Nijem takes Proctor’s back, but in an attempt to transition to mount the two stand up
  • A nice high kick landed in an exchange from Nijem
  • When the two are swinging for the fence Proctor lands a big shot and lands in Nijem’s half guard
Round 2
  • A nice uppercut lands by Nijem
  • Nijem lands a shot to the body followed by a hook
  • Proctor lands a right hook that makes the crowd roar
  • Proctor grabs the neck again, but Nijem fights it off
Round 3
  • Nijem gets a takedown, but while going for it, Proctor grabs an arm for a kimura. Nijem fights through it
  • Proctor rolls over Nijem’s back and takes his arm. Nijem stacks him and ends up on top
  • Nijem and Proctor throw to finish the round

Daron Cruickshank vs. Henry Martinez

Round 1

  • Both men come out swinging, but end up against the cage
  • Cruickshank lands a nice spinning back fist, but again the two end up against the cage
  • The two throw passion to the wind against the cage and Martinez is busted up
  • Another spinning back fist lands for Cruickshank, followed by some nice knees and punches
  • Cruickshank lands a kick to the body and follows up with some high kicks and serious punches
  • Martinez is a bloody mess but continues to fight and the crowd goes wild
  • Cruickshank lands a beautiful punch followed by a high-kick that stuns Martinez
  • Round ends with the crowd going wild and a flurry
Round 2
  • The round starts the same with both men swinging
  • Cruickshank lands a nice side-kick to the body
  • Cruickshank lands a high-kick and Martinez drops like a fallen tree …OVER
  • Finishes with a nice backflip for the fans

Marcus LeVesseur vs. Abel Trujillo

Round 1

  • LeVesseur lands a nice belly to back suplex, but Trujillo gets back to his feet
  • A grind against the cage and LeVesseur ends up with a takedown, but against they end up back on their feet
  • Trujillo is punishing LeVesseur while pushed up against the cage with punches and knees
  • LeVesseur goes for a takedown and Trujillo lands a nice knee to the face
  • Trujillo finishes the round landing elbows to the body of a turtled LeVesseur
Round 2
  • LeVesseur goes for a takedown and Trujillo turns it into a guillotine
  • The two hit the canvas with Trujillo in a modified choke position
  • They break and the two throw some fisticuffs with LeVesseur getting dropped
  • LeVesseur turtles and Trujillo takes the back. He lands some knees and punches to the head and body
  • A straight right landed by Trujillo
  • Trujillo lands some big knees to the body of a turtled LeVesseur which eventually stops the fight

Nam Phan vs. Denis Siver 

Round 1

  • Siver lands some serious leg kicks early
  • Siver lands the 1-2 continuously
  • Siver lands a glancing spinning back kick
  • Phan lands a nice left hook off a Siver combo
  • A front kick thrown by Siver into a single leg, but Phan recovers to his feet
Round 2
  • Siver lands a clean hook and Phan slips
  • Siver lands a front kick, but doesn’t phase Phan
  • A takedown is secured by Siver and ends up in half guard
  • Siver controls Phan’s arm and lays down some punches and elbows
  • Off a transition Siver ends up in mount, but only for a second at most
Round 3
  • Siver takes the fight to the ground within the first minute
  • Siver has landed 61 ground strikes
  • From half guard Siver lands a tremendous amount of elbows and punches
  • With 40 seconds left Siver has landed 118 ground strikes

John Albert vs. Scott Jorgensen

Round 1

  • Early in the first a big sweep from the bottom for Albert who takes Jorgensen’s back
  • Jorgensen reverses and ends up back in the guard
  • Several brutal elbows from Albert’s guard
  • Albert locked up a deep triangle choke, but Jorgensen fought threw to end up in side control
  • Albert attempts a sweep, but Jorgensen ends up taking Albert’s back and secures a Rear Naked choke to finish the fight
