Chad Mendes vs. Clay Guida booked for UFC on FOX 7

|

Just yesterday it was announced that Chad Mendes was dropped from the UFC 157 fight card because his opponent Manny Gamburyan was injured and no opponent was available on short notice. Well, it didn’t take long for UFC matchmaker Joe Silva to find him a new card to fight on and a new opponent. At UFC on FOX 7, Mendes will square off against Clay “The Carpenter” Guida.

UFC President Dana White confirmed the news to USA TODAY Sports and was first reported by MMAjunkie.com.

Mendes (13-1) has gone on a two fight winning streak against Cody McKenzie and Yaotzin Meza since losing to the UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo. He hopes to beat Guida to inch that much closer to another bid at the featherweight title.

Guida (30-13) decided to make the drop to featherweight after falling two straight. In his 145 pound debut he defeated top contender Hatsu Hioki by split decision.

UFC on FOX 7 will go down on April 20 from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The main event will be for the lightweight championship as Benson Henderson puts his title on the line against Strikeforce lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez.
