In a live ceremony in Los Angeles, Calif. this past weekend, executives from The World Boxing Council (WBC) organization along with the Thai Ambassador to the United States, Chaiyong Satjipanon, gathered together to award Scott Kent, owner of Lion Fight Promotions, with honors as the WBC Most Active Promoter of the Year.

The Ambassador and the WBC presented the award to Kent on Sunday, April 8 during the WBC Asian Boxing Council and the WBC MUAYTHAI presentation held in conjunction with the annual Thai New Year Festival. The WBC honored Kent for his accomplishments in advancing the sport of Muay Thai.
“The WBC MUAYTHAI award to Scott Kent, announced at the annual presentation day for the WBC Asian Boxing Council and the WBC MUAYTHAI, acknowledges our appreciation of the successful events you staged in 2012 that promoted and publicized Muay Thai, the national sport of Thailand,” said General Kovid Bhakdibhumi, Vice-President and Chairman of WBC MUAYTHAI.
“I would like to thank the WBC and Ambassador Satjipanon for this award and would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the Muay Thai community for its ongoing support of Lion Fight,” said Kent. “I am passionate about Muay Thai and am committed to growing it into the most popular stand-up fighting sport in America.”
During the ceremony, Kent stated in his remarks that the next Lion Fight event will take place Friday, July 26 at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and will likely feature the return of Thai legend Yodsanklai Fairtex as the televised main event on AXS TV. Fairtex headlined Lion Fight 8 held January 25, knocking out Gregory Choplin in the third round. Kent also said top-ranked light heavyweight Joe Schilling, who attended the VIP presentation, will fight on the July 26 “LION FIGHT 10” card.
Lion Fight Promotions is the largest promoter of Muay Thai in America and holds a television distribution deal with AXS TV. In a recent interview with USA Today, the owner of AXS TV, Mark Cuban stated, “We have always been Muay Thai fans. We just hadn’t had the right partner. Lion Fights put together the best of the best, and we were excited to expose fans to a different side of MMA.”
