John Makdessi will take on Edson Barboza at UFC 162 in Las Vegas

A lightweight tilt has been set for UFC 162 in Las Vegas, as Canadian standout John Makdessi takes on the always dangerous Edson Barboza.

UFC officials announced the match-up on Friday.

Makdessi (11-2) went 9-0 to start his professional career and came into the UFC with a boom. In his last four fights he has gone 2-2, but is currently riding a two-fight winning streak.

Most recently “The Bull” defeated Daron Cruickshank by unanimous decision at UFC 158 in Montreal last month.

Barboza (11-1) has tasted defeat just once in his MMA career and that was to Jamie Varner at UFC 146 this past May. His last appearance inside the octagon he picked up a submission victory against Lucas Martins at UFC on FX 7.

The Brazilian has won “Fight of the Night” bonuses in three of his six UFC fights.

UFC 162 is expected to go down on July 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be headlined by UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva who takes on Chris Weidman.
