“The Fighting Pride of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia,” T.J. Grant appeared on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani earlier today to speak out about his injury, conspiracy theorists, and who he hopes will in the rematch between his replacement, Anthony Pettis, and champion Benson Henderson.

When Helwani asked Grant about finishing the camp without sparring and still going through with the fight, TJ minced no words.

“I’m not scared to fight anyone. If I was healthy and I knew that I could get in shape, I would’ve… It’s a little scary. I wanted to kind of make the best decision for myself. I want to do what’s best for me, I want to fight for a long time. I want to live a long time. I want to enjoy my baby girl and all that stuff, so I thought about it a lot and talked to the UFC doctor and all the doctors here. The decision was 100 percent mine.”

Ariel also made sure to ask Grant about the tin-foil hat crowd crying, “Conspiracy!” over the timing of his injury. TJ made sure to mention that he was not guaranteed a title shot upon his return by Joe Silva. The only guarantee the Canadian lightweight received was that he would do no worse than a title eliminator fight upon recovery. On the subject of who he hoped would win the upcoming lightweight title fight, Grant did not pick sides.

“I’m not rooting for anyone. Honestly, I don’t really care. I hope they have a good fight, they beat each other up good. I hope the winner doesn’t get injured though, because I want to fight him.”
