Sara McMann out of UFC Fight Night 27, replacement sought to fight Sarah Kaufman

|

MMA Junkie is reporting that Olympic silver medalist Sara McMann has been forced to withdraw from her August 28th bout with Sarah Kaufman. Junkie’s sources are reporting that the withdrawl was not due to injury, but “undisclosed reasons.”

At press time, a replacement opponent for the 16-2 Kaufman has yet to be announced by the UFC.

McMann (7-0) is the only woman currently active in the UFC with a higher placing in an Olympic event than champion Ronda Rousey, taking a silver in freestyle wrestling at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. With a takedown game that would make most male competitors jealous, McMann has also been supplementing her groundwork with submissions, with two of her three tap-out victories coming by way of a hold. The powerhouse grappler made her promotional debut at UFC 159, where she dominated Sheila Gaff en route to a 1st round TKO. MMASucka.com wishes her a speedy resolution to whatever issues have forced her to withdraw from this bout.

Kaufman (16-2), hailing from Victoria, BC, is one of the top competitors in the women’s bantamweight division. A former Strikeforce bantamweight champion, the Canadian fighter is known for her heavy hands and powerful takedowns, being one of the few fighters to own a victory by knockout due to a slam. Kaufman was last seen fighting at Invicta FC 5. While she does not have a new opponent for UFC Fight Night 27, a rematch with Alexis Davis could potentially make for another exciting fight.

UFC Fight Night 27 goes down on August 28th at Indianapolis, IN’s Banker’s Life Fieldhouse. The main event is currently scheduled to be a welterweight rematch between “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit and Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann.
