Rebel Fighting Championship becomes the latest promotion to enter the foray of Mixed Martial Arts, as the sport continues its exponential growth throughout the Asia continent.

The promotion’s format, however, will be much different.

Enter the Lion’s den with Rebel FC, Singapore’s newest MMA promotion

Rebel FC has decided to dedicate its banner to up-and-coming Mixed Martial Artists, in an attempt to boost opportunities for young fighters to showcase their skills at a high level.

The inaugural installment of the promotion is set to commence on December 21st, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Fans will be treated to a fight card featuring five amateur MMA bouts, and five professional ones.

Three huge match-ups have already been announced for the event.

rebel_fighting_championshipAustralia’s “Ruthless” Rob Lisita (12-5) takes on Japanese MMA legend, Takeshi Inoue (21-8), in a Featherweight contest that will serve as the event’s headliner. Known as “Lion Takeshi” to most MMA fans, the 33-year-old is a two-time Shooto Lightweight champ boasting a resume that includes bouts with the likes of Hatsu Hioki, Caol Uno and Cole Miller. Rob Lisita, in the meantime, is a native of Phuket Top Team, one of Asia’s premier training camps. The 30-year-old is 4-1 in his last 5 outings, with the lone defeat coming at the hands of Yusuke Kawanago at Legend FC 10.

Hot Singaporean prospect and local talent  Syafiq “The Slasher” Samad (2-0) will be fighting for the first time in his home country, as he locks horns with Korean Top Team’s Gyo Pyung Hwang (3-3). Both fighters look set to impress in their respective promotional debuts although Samad may very well hold the advantage in this bout with his home crowd’s support. Needless to say, the 21-year-old has been working diligently to improve his all-round MMA facet, which was evident in his submission victory over Wesley Machado at PXC 37.

Gyo Pyung Hwang is a fighter that’s familiar with the Pacific X-Treme Combat as well, having competed thrice for the Guam-based promotion. Despite the edge in experience, however, he has been sidelined since 2011, so some cage/ring rust may be in effect when the South Korean makes his first appearance under the Rebel FC banner on December 21st.

The third announced match-up features Gyo Pyung Hwang’s team-mate Doo Hwan Kim (4-1) against Japan’s Cristiano Kaminishi (8-1, 2 NC). The latter’s pro MMA career spans over nine years, fighting for various promotions including most notably Heat and DEEP. Kim, meanwhile, is a PXC veteran who was last seen in June at Top FC, where he picked up a split decision victory over Hae Jun Yang.
