Ross Pearson and Melvin Guillard fight to a no contest

Ross Pearson and Melvin Guillard are UFC veterans that have shown significant improvements in their previous bouts. Pearson is coming off two straight wins against George Sotiropoulos and Ryan Couture, both TKO victories. On the other hand, Guillard is coming off a KO victory over Mac Danzig, losing his previous two bouts against tough competition in Donald Cerrone and Jamie Varner. Both fighters are dangerous strikers and going the distance seemed highly unlikely from the get go.

In the first round, both guys came out swinging as expected with nobody gaining an upper hand. Other than a few leg kicks, this fight was a typical boxing slug-fest. Both guys landed well with Guillard getting the better shots early. Pearson tried to throw a flying knee but was caught and taken down. On Pearon’s way up, Guillard threw a few knees to the head which were called illegal and opened a cut on Pearson’s forehead. The fight was then declared a no contest.
