It was a good run for the Hong Kong-based promotion which held shows in Macau, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Legend FC was considered as one of the region’s top promotions in past years, and has to date, provided the platform for some of Asia’s biggest MMA fighters today. Mark Striegl, Rob Lisita, Jumabieke Tuerxuan. Bae Myung Ho, Adam Kayoom and Yusuke Kawanago among others had the disticnt pleasure of applying their trade in the Legend FC ring.

The promotion hosted eleven events from 2010 to 2013.

Legend Fighting Championship officially ceases operations

First reported by the folks at BloodyElbow.com, Peter Chernin’s CA Media, which is the part owner and primary investor behind the promotion, decided to pull the plug on their MMA project a few weeks ago, effectively putting an end to Legend Fighting Championship and its operations.

As far as Legend FC’s fighters go, they will be transferred to other promotions with sources claiming that the likes of PXC are already in talks in acquiring some of their talents. Although organizations have shown interest, however, it is unlikely that all their fighters will find new homes.

Legend FC will start off-loading its assets over the coming weeks or so, most notably the Legend FC brand, content library, and of course, the fighter contracts.

As with most organizations worldwide, Legend Fighting Championship wasn’t free from criticism. Despite the negatives, though, the promotion hung on and established itself in the Asia-Pacific region, developing talents and giving them a platform to exhibit their Mixed Martial Arts skills. One of Legend FC’s highlights was their ability in securing lucrative deals with significant broadcast channels, like AXN and ESPN.

As evident, it isn’t all Jekyll and no Hyde for Asian MMA promotions, in-spite of the MMA scene taking off expeditiously in recent times. It’ll be time for other regional organizations to step up to the plate, now that Legend FC has left the Asian MMA landscape.
