Today UFC President Dana White and welterweight Georges St-Pierre held a special conference call, with the champ announcing that he will vacate his title and take some time away from MMA.

During the call, White also made the announcement that former number one contender Johny Hendricks will take on Robbie Lawler on March 15 for the vacant welterweight championship.

Hendricks (15-2) was riding a six-fight winning streak before colliding with St-Pierre at UFC 167 in November. The majority of fans out there believed that Hendricks beat the champ, however the judges felt differently and gave St-Pierre the split decision.

Lawler (22-9 1NC) has found a career resurgence since coming back to the UFC in February. He is currently riding a three-fight winning streak, which all started with a brutal knockout of Josh Koscheck at UFC 157. He followed up with another knockout against Bobby Voelker at UFC on FOX 8 and most recently won a split-decision against Rory MacDonald at UFC 167.

Both Hendricks and Lawler are known for their devastating punching power, so the fans should be in for a treat in Texas.

UFC 171 will go down on March 15 in Dallas, Texas. Hendricks vs. Lawler will headline the event in Texas.
