Officials today confirmed with Fight Sport Asia that a Middleweight tilt pitting former UFC vet Riki Fukuda (19-7) against Kim Hee-Seung (6-1) will headline the inaugural installment of ‘ROAD FC – Korea’ on January 18th.
As previously reported, ‘ROAD FC – Korea’ is a new monthly initiative launched by ROAD Fighting Championship. This new venture will serve as a launching point for foreign fighters to get into ROAD FC. All events have been targeted for the Grand Hilton Convention Centre in Seoul, South Korea.
Riki Fukuda vs Kim Hee-Seung to headline inaugural ‘ROAD FC – Korea’ event
Both Fukuda and Seung were originally scheduled to face one another at ROAD FC 013, but an injury forced the former to withdraw from proceedings a week before the contest.
Fukuda, 32, will be fighting for the first time since his release from the UFC. He tallied a 2-3 record with the American outfit, where he held notable bouts with the likes of Brad Tavares, Costa Philippou and Nick Ring. A staple of Pancrase and Shooto, the Japanese vet is known for his relentless power and solid wrestling credentials.
Welcoming Fukuda to the ROAD FC banner will be Kim Hee-Seung, a Team Posse product currently boasting a two-fight winning streak. A stable-mate of Lightweight champ Nam Yui-Chul, Seung, 26, possesses a well-rounded MMA skill-set which he uses to compliment his ferocious ground-and-pound. The South Korean has only seen the distance once, so expect this match-up to deliver guaranteed fireworks to the masses.
ROAD FC – Korea 001 takes place January 18th at the Grand Hilton Convention Centre in Seoul, South Korea. An online stream will be catered to global fans to catch all the action LIVE.
