This past week, UFC President Dana White stated that Tyron Woodley would not face Carlos Condit, however that bout has now been booked for UFC 171.
Carlos Condit and Tyron Woodley square off at UFC 171
UFC officials announced the match-up on Tuesday.
Condit (29-7) snapped a two-fight losing skid when he TKO’d Martin Kampmann in the main event at UFC Fight Night 27. Prior to that victory, “The Natural Born Killer” lost to Johny Hendricks in a number one contender bout and Georges St-Pierre in a welterweight championship fight.
Woodley (12-2) is also coming off a victory – at UFC 167 he picked up an impressive knockout against Josh Koscheck. “T-Wood” is 2-1 under the UFC banner since making his way over from Strikeforce.
Condit was expected to take on Matt Brown at this past weekends UFC on FOX 9 fight card, but Brown was forced out due to injury. With Condit needing an opponent, Woodley apparently sent numerous text messages to UFC officials and his wish came true.
UFC 171 will go down on March 15, 2014 from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Headlining the event will be Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler for the vacant welterweight championship.
