They asked and they shall receive — Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will square off at UFC 178 in Las Vegas.
UFC officials announced on Tuesday that both fighters have verbally agreed to the fight.
McGregor (15-2) is currently riding an amazing 11-fight winning streak, with three of those coming under the UFC banner. Most recently “The Notorious” dismantled Diego Brandao in the main event at UFC Fight Night 46 in front of his hometown of Dublin. The first round TKO finish earned McGregor an extra $50,000 for ‘Performance of the Night’.
Poirier (16-3) earned ‘Fight of the Night’ honors in his last outing againstĀ Akira Corassani at UFC Fight for the Troops 3 when he finished him in the second round. Prior to that bout, Poirier also finished Brandao by first round TKO at UFC 168. The American Top Team product is currently riding a three-fight winning streak.
The McGregor vs. Poirier bout will likely take place on the evenings PPV portion of the UFC 178 fight card.
UFC 178 goes down on September 27 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In theĀ main event Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson square off for the UFC light heavyweight championship.
