Pat Promrangka’s refusal at attempting to make weight forced REBEL FC officials to scratch his scheduled bout with Michael Tobin earlier today.
Today’s official fighter weigh-ins took place at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, where MMASucka.com was on scene for the evening’s proceedings.
According to a source close to the event, Promrangka (6-4) was as much as four pounds overweight for the 145-lbs affair. But the 23-year-old declined to make an effort to shred the extra weight, leaving officials no choice but to scrap the contest.
“He didn’t even try and that was disappointing. We’re really upset the bout had to be called off under such circumstances,” the source said. “Michael (Tobin) was using the classic Judoka’s way of cutting weight. He was running on the beach, eager and doing his best to make the limit. And he hit the mark in the end, but it’s really unfortunate he can’t fight.”
Tobin-Promrangka was part of a star-studded 8-man Featherweight championship tournament, featuring the likes of former WEC champ Miguel Torres, and former UFC fighter, Will Chope.
But with the fight now off the running order, Tobin (8-0) will be given an automatic gate-pass into the next round. He’ll await the winner of Reydon Romero vs. Yojiro Uchimura.
“My fight on Rebel Fighting Championship is no longer happening as my opponent has quit. (He) did not even bother to weigh in,” Tobin stated, on his official Facebook page. “(I) can’t tell you all how disappointed I am.”
The rest of the fighters on the card, meanwhile, made weight without issues.
REBEL FC 2: Battle Royale has now been reduced to nine fights with three bouts taking place on the main card and six on the prelims. The event takes place at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre tomorrow night.
