The 25-year old Canadian Rory MacDonald requested a title shot following his third-round TKO victory over top 10 welterweight Tarec Saffiedine last Saturday in the main event of UFC Fight Night 54.  UFC President Dana White has granted his wish.

Rory MacDonald will fight for the title in 2015 against Hendricks-Lawler winner

MacDonald (18-2) will receive a title shot early 2015 on Canadian soil, against the winner of current champion Johny Hendricks vs. #1 contender Robbie Lawler in a rematch, which happens in the main event of UFC 181 in December.

This was first reported by The Canadian Press, but the UFC confirmed shortly after.  MMAjunkie has also reported that the bout will take place in Montreal, where MacDonald currently resides, but nothing has been confirmed.  Although, Montreal is likely to host a UFC event in March, which would be perfect timing.

‘Ares’ has won three straight, and has only lost once in four years out of his last nine bouts, a split decision loss to Robbie Lawler last November at UFC 167.
